Southern Energy Completes Deep Well in Mississippi's Williamsburg Field
Southern Energy Corp. has completed and cased its deep Cotton Valley well in Mississippi, marking an important milestone for the company's natural gas and light oil portfolio.
The well, located in the Williamsburg Field, reached a total measured depth of approximately 18,825 feet after drilling began on September 10, 2026. Southern Energy encountered several prospective sand intervals across the Sligo, Hosston, and Cotton Valley formations during drilling.
Although the commercial potential of the well is yet to be determined, initial testing will focus on the Cotton Valley formation, with results expected once sufficient data is available. Ian Atkinson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Southern Energy, highlighted the operational performance achieved during the drilling campaign, noting that the well was drilled safely and within its planned budget.
The company plans to apply operational efficiencies identified during the drilling program to future wells in the Williamsburg Field, aiming to reduce drilling times and optimize capital expenditure. Positive test results could support Southern Energy's broader strategy of expanding its natural gas and light oil production base.
