Southern Farmers Navigate Unpredictable Weather Conditions
Farmers in the South are dealing with a mixed bag of weather conditions that have impacted their crops. While some areas began the season dry, they're now struggling with excess rainfall. Phillip Melvin from Alpha, Florida, said his peanuts 'look good' and are 'clean and green,' but he's concerned about pests like the cotton jassid.
Henry Froese in Texas has seen improvements in his peanut crop due to periodic rainfall, but high temperatures in July have him worried. Brett Sauls from Shellman, Georgia, had a dry start to the season, followed by too much rain that made it difficult for him to spray his crops.
Others are optimistic about their corn and peanut crops, despite challenges with moisture levels. Justin Garrett from Pike County, Alabama, said he's about 45-60 days away from harvesting his peanuts, which are currently in the bloom stage.
