Soybeans Soar on Strong Demand, Corn Prices Rise Amid Weather Concerns
The soybean market saw significant gains due to fund and technical buying, driven by strong domestic demand. The July NOPA member crush came in smaller than expected at 216.647 million tons but still managed to surpass June's number by 2.307 million and last year's by 20.948 million.
The tight supply of soybean oil stocks fell 9% from the previous month, reaching its lowest level since October 2023. This development contributed to the increase in soybean oil futures and soybean meal prices.
However, some weather concerns may impact production, with weekend flooding affecting parts of the region. As of Sunday, 61% of U.S. soybeans were rated good to excellent, a 1% decline from the previous week, while 96% of the crop was blooming and 85% had reached the pod setting stage.
Corn prices also rose due to fund and technical buying, as traders monitor weather conditions that may impact yields. A private crop tour is underway, with some speculating about lower yield potential following recent weather issues in key growing areas.
