Sri Lankan Petrol Prices Slashed Amid Wheat Flour Price Hike
The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CEYPETCO) has reduced petrol prices in Sri Lanka. As of midnight on August 30, a liter of Octane 92 petrol now costs Rs. 399, down from Rs. 414. The price of Octane 95 petrol has also been lowered to Rs. 475 from Rs. 495. However, diesel and kerosene prices remain unchanged.
The decision to lower petrol prices comes on the heels of a wheat flour price increase, which could lead to higher bread costs in the coming days. According to reports, wheat flour manufacturing companies Prima and Serendib have raised their prices by Rs. 17 per kilogramme due to rising global wheat prices and production costs.
The All Ceylon Restaurant Owners' Association has announced a price increase of Rs. 5 for flour-based foods such as roti, paratha, and short eats, effective from midnight on August 29.
