Sri Lankan Short Eats Prices Hike Amid Wheat Flour Price Surge
The price of wheat flour has increased by Rs. 17 per kilogram, prompting a hike in prices for several short eats and bakery products in Sri Lanka.
Major suppliers Prima Ceylon and Serendib Flour Mills attributed the rise to rising global costs, including higher shipping and maritime insurance expenses and increased international grain prices amid the ongoing Middle East conflict.
As a result, the All-Island Canteen Owners' Association has increased the price of items such as parata, egg roti, vegetable roti, rolls, and patties by Rs. 5 each.
The price of a string hopper has gone up by Re. 1, while the price of a hopper has increased by Rs. 2.
The All-Island Bakery Owners' Association is considering whether to adjust the prices of bread and other bakery products in response to the flour price hike.
