Sri Lanka's Short Eats and Bread Prices Hike Amid Wheat Flour Price Surge
Due to the recent price hike of wheat flour, Sri Lanka's short eats and bakery products will become more expensive. The All-Island Restaurant and Canteen Owners' Association announced that prices of popular items like paratha, egg roti, vegetable roti, rolls, and patties will increase by Rs.5 starting today (30).
The price hike is a result of the significant increases in shipping, insurance fees, and grain prices since the onset of the Middle East conflict in February. The Prima and Serendib companies increased the price of a kilogram of wheat flour by Rs.17, effective yesterday (29).
N. K. Jayawardena, President of the All Island Bakery Owners' Association, stated that prices of bakery products, including bread, will also have to be increased in line with the wheat flour price hike. However, he noted that a final decision regarding the matter will be announced to the media tomorrow.
