Stingray Arrives in Mozambique, Marking Progress on TotalEnergies' LNG Project
The Mozambique LNG project, operated by TotalEnergies, has taken a significant step forward with the arrival of pipelaying barge Stingray in Palma Bay, Cabo Delgado. The vessel will support the installation of five gas pipelines along a 17.7-kilometre corridor.
The infrastructure is crucial for transporting gas produced in Area 1 to the onshore liquefaction facilities currently under construction. According to a statement from the project, the arrival of Stingray represents a sign that the project is moving from announcements about its resumption to physical execution.
The mobilisation of Stingray faced logistical constraints, including being stranded in the United Arab Emirates due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz at the beginning of 2026. The vessel and its support fleet were subsequently rerouted through Oman before reaching Mozambique.
The project's resumption is expected to stimulate sectors such as logistics, transport, engineering, accommodation, maintenance, and the supply of goods and services, creating opportunities for national companies integrated into the project's supply chain.
