Stocks Falter as Oil Prices Fall Amid Escalating Tensions
Stocks on Wall Street wavered on Friday as oil prices fell for the first time in a week. Despite this, the S&P 500 is still set to close out its second consecutive losing week since March.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 133 points, or 0.3%, while the Nasdaq fell 0.5%. The losses are largely due to sharp declines from Micron Technology and Broadcom, two companies with significant market values that weigh heavily on the market.
Oil prices have been rising all week, but Brent crude fell 3.5% to $97.19 per barrel. This decline is attributed to ongoing tensions in the Middle East and concerns about the global flow of oil and gas.
