Stocks Soar as Corporate Profits Continue to Boom and Oil Prices Ease
The US stock market rallied to new records on Tuesday as corporate profits continued to soar and oil prices eased. The S&P 500 surged 1.8%, reaching a new all-time high, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 907 points to its own record set the day before. The Nasdaq composite jumped 2.6%.
Palantir Technologies led the way, surging 29.5% after CEO Alex Karp announced a 93% increase in overall revenue for the spring quarter, calling it an 'otherworldly' performance. Caterpillar also reported stronger profit and revenue than analysts expected, with its sales and revenue exceeding $20 billion for the first time.
Despite concerns about high inflation, the war in Iran, and a potential bubble in AI technology, Wall Street remained resilient, with stock prices following corporate earnings over the long term. The drop in oil prices also helped ease worries about inflation, pulling down yields in the bond market and relaxing pressure on the overall economy.
