StorageCurve Brings Energy Market Data to Life
StorageCurve has launched an interactive energy market data platform that tracks oil, gas, and power supply, demand, and inventory levels. The free platform uses official statistics from various sources, including the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) and Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE), to create charts and graphs that help users understand physical energy balances.
The platform is aimed at investors, energy-market participants, analysts, and other users who want to follow changes in global energy markets without relying on paid data products or assembling multiple datasets internally. StorageCurve's founder, Per, identified a recurring problem in energy-market analysis: much of the underlying information is publicly available, but converting it into consistent historical and seasonal comparisons often requires significant work.
The platform tracks both crude oil inventories and the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) separately. The distinction between commercial inventories and SPR is important because the SPR is a government-controlled emergency stockpile whose movements are driven by policy decisions rather than normal seasonal market activity. StorageCurve also monitors Cushing, Oklahoma inventories, which are used as a pricing hub for NYMEX WTI futures.
European natural gas storage remains below seasonal norms, with EU underground gas inventories approximately 21.9% below their five-year seasonal average. The platform compares current storage with previous years and historical seasonal ranges rather than presenting the absolute storage percentage in isolation.
