Strait of Hormuz Deal Nears Completion Amid Uncertainty
A long-awaited agreement between Iran and Oman is nearing completion to manage maritime traffic through the critical oil passage of the Strait of Hormuz. The proposed arrangement would see inbound commercial ships pass through Iranian territorial waters, allowing Tehran to oversee entry routes.
Outbound vessels, on the other hand, would travel through Omani waters, replacing the decades-old open corridor.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed that 'this progress is on the verge of being finalized,' but emphasized that an agreement creates a new traffic framework rather than a full reopening.
The Strait of Hormuz deal has been in the works since conflict escalated in February, causing disruptions to oil passage. US President Donald Trump stated that negotiations were 'moving along nicely' and suggested a deal could be announced soon.
