Strait of Hormuz Tensions Escalate as Two Supertankers Hit by Mystery Projectiles
The Strait of Hormuz has become a hotspot for maritime tensions once again. Two supertankers, Sidr and Senegal Prosperity, were hit by unknown projectiles while transiting the strait on Tuesday.
The incident occurred northeast of Khasab, Oman, according to Marisks, a maritime risk management firm. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) also confirmed the incident, stating that a tanker had reported being struck by three unknown projectiles.
No casualties or environmental impact have been reported so far. However, this latest development has raised concerns about the safety of oil shipments in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical waterway for global oil trade, and any disruptions to its flow can have significant implications for crude oil prices. In fact, Brent crude prices rose to nearly $92 a barrel on Tuesday, a day after the incident, as concerns about the re-escalation of tensions in the region grew.
