Sudan's Zoyaal Revives Fina One Oil Production Amid Ongoing Conflict
Sudan's energy sector has taken a major step forward as Zoyaal Holding Group resumed crude oil production at its Fina One project. The restart, which began with an initial rate of 10,000 barrels per day (bpd), marks a significant milestone for the country's industry, which had faced extensive disruptions due to conflict since April 2023.
The Fina One project was producing around 5,000 bpd before the conflict escalated and operations were forced to halt. Zoyaal Holding secured regulatory approvals and completed technical rehabilitation work on facilities that remained idle during the conflict.
The company plans to gradually increase production over the coming years with a long-term objective of reaching 100,000 bpd by 2030. This expansion strategy aims to strengthen domestic fuel supplies in Sudan, which continues to struggle with shortages and rising import costs.
Khalid Hassan, an energy analyst at Zoyaal Holding, noted that prolonged shutdowns created technical difficulties, including equipment deterioration and the need to recalibrate operational systems before production could safely resume. He emphasized that energy companies operating in Sudan continue to face obstacles in attracting investment, obtaining spare parts, and navigating banking restrictions and currency volatility.
