Sugar Futures Soar on Supply Concerns
Sugar futures have been on the rise this week, driven by concerns over lower US crop yields and tighter supply expectations. According to the Commitment of Traders Report, speculators hold a net long position of 103,970 lots in No.11 raw sugar futures, with producers continuing to hedge into the price strength.
The current speculative net long position is an increase from last week's report, which saw speculators add 14k lots of longs and cut 12.3k lots of shorts. This has resulted in a net long position increase of 26.2k lots for speculators.
Corn futures are also trading near multi-year highs, with prices around USD 512.5/bu, up roughly 15% over the past three months. The rally is driven by concerns over lower US crop yields and tighter supply expectations, as well as ongoing disruptions to Black Sea grain exports.
