Sugar Supplants Corn Syrup in US Shoppers' Preferences
A shift in consumer behavior is underway in the US market, with shoppers increasingly opting for products made with sugar over high-fructose corn syrup.
Economist Tanner Ehmke notes that this trend is becoming more pronounced, with consumers switching away from high fructose corn syrup to sugar.
However, despite this growing demand for sugar, US sugar producers are not necessarily reaping the benefits. According to Ehmke, cheap imports of sugar from global markets are undercutting domestic prices and limiting the gains for American producers.
