Sumitomo Digs Deeper into Chile's Copper Play
Sumitomo Corporation has strengthened its copper resource platform by increasing its stake in Chile's Dos Amigos copper-gold project. The company now holds a quarter of Tintina Mines Limited and an economic interest in the project through a special purpose vehicle with G Mining Group.
This move deepens Sumitomo's presence in Chile, a key jurisdiction for global copper supply chains. However, its immediate impact on forecasts and risk-reward is limited, as it fits within the company's existing investment narrative of selectively increasing exposure to long-life resources like copper.
Sumitomo's shares have risen but are still potentially undervalued by 15%, according to some estimates from the Simply Wall St Community. The community's fair value estimates cluster between ¥1,948.35 and ¥2,079.64, hinting at modest upside from current prices.
