Surat's Jewellery Market Sees Surge in Demand for High-Value Rakhis
As Raksha Bandhan approaches in Surat's jewellery market, there is a surge in demand for diamond, gold, and silver rakhis. Despite rising gold prices, sisters are opting for these high-value rakhis as a symbol of their brother-sister bond and an investment opportunity.
Jewellers are offering a wide range of designs, from ₹500 to ₹7 lakh, including real diamonds, lab-grown diamonds, American diamonds, and customised gold and silver pieces. Two-in-one pendants that can be tied around the wrist on Raksha Bandhan and later worn as a pendant are also gaining popularity.
Bracelet-style rakhis made with 2-3 grams of gold or diamond centrepieces with a bracelet finish are in high demand, allowing brothers to wear them as a bracelet even after the festival. Spiritual motifs, such as 'Shree', 'Swastik', and 'Om', are also popular choices, along with gold-coins and gold-guinea bracelets.
Deepak Choksi, a leading jeweller, noted that the sharp rise in gold and silver prices has changed how customers view jewellery rakhis. Many buyers now consider them as a form of investment, not just a symbol of the brother-sister bond.
An NRI customer, Sheetal Desai, chose a real diamond rakhi for her brother due to its unique design, which can be worn as a pendant after the festival.
