Swift Current Approves One-Year Natural Gas Deal with Twin Eagle
The Swift Current city council has approved a one-year agreement with Twin Eagle Resource Management Canada LLC to supply natural gas to municipal facilities. The deal, which runs from November 1, 2026, to October 31, 2027, will cost the city $2.995 per gigajoule, lower than SaskEnergy's posted business commodity rate of $3.20 per gigajoule.
City administration estimates that this agreement could provide at least $13,325 in annual savings based on the city's average consumption of approximately 65,000 gigajoules.
Alicia Laird, the city's chief financial officer, said Twin Eagle had previously supplied the city from 2013 to 2021 and that the company had been transparent about its pricing during that relationship.
However, Councillor Tom Christiansen raised concerns about both the contract and the potential implications of shifting natural gas purchases away from SaskEnergy. He questioned how pricing would be handled if the city's gas consumption changed significantly.
