Swift Current City Council Approves One-Year Natural Gas Deal with Twin Eagle
The city council of Swift Current has approved a one-year contract with Twin Eagle Resource Management Canada LLC to supply natural gas to municipal facilities. The agreement, which will run from November 1, 2026, to October 31, 2027, will provide the city with an estimated annual savings of at least $13,325.
The fixed commodity price for the natural gas is $2.995 per gigajoule, which is below SaskEnergy's posted business commodity rate of $3.20 per gigajoule. SaskEnergy will continue to provide delivery, meter reading, billing, maintenance, and emergency services under this agreement.
The city administration cited its previous relationship with Twin Eagle from 2013 to 2021 as a reason for re-engaging with the company. Alicia Laird, the chief financial officer, explained that the contract provisions allowing for adjustments in the enrollment price were related to potential changes in SaskEnergy's conversion rate between gigajoules and cubic meters.
Councillor Tom Christiansen raised concerns about the impact of this agreement on provincial funding for a new aquatic facility. He argued that the city could find other ways to save money without affecting its relationship with the province.
