Syria Seeks to Rebuild Oil Industry After Years of Decline
Syria is working to revive its oil industry after years of decline following the conflict that began in 2011. In the first half of this year, the country produced 14.8 million barrels of oil, which is a significant decrease from pre-conflict levels but still a notable achievement given the circumstances.
The Ministry of Energy reported that output is currently at 79% below what it was before the conflict began. However, efforts are underway to restore infrastructure and boost production, with agreements and projects signed with foreign companies aimed at increasing oil production.
Recent developments include the rehabilitation of a pipeline, the restart of a pumping station in Homs that had been shut down for 12 years, and the bringing back into operation of an offshore platform. Additionally, 152 wells have resumed operations, and 10 new ones were brought online during this period.
