Syria's Oil Sector Slowly Recovers from Civil War
Syria's oil and gas sector is slowly regaining its footing after years of civil war, producing 14.8 million barrels of crude oil in the first half of 2026.
This marks a significant increase from previous production levels, but still falls short of pre-war numbers, which saw Syria produce 383,000 barrels of oil per day and 316 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
The Ministry of Energy is working to rebuild infrastructure and restore output through increased investment and rehabilitation efforts. In June, the Syrian Petroleum Co. signed agreements with ConocoPhillips and Novaterra to develop several gas fields and increase output from existing sites.
