Taiwan FDA Cracks Down on Benzopyrene-Tainted Camellia Oil Makers

The FDA is taking action against camellia seed oil manufacturers after finding excessive levels of benzopyrene in their products. The agency has identified eight companies, including Uni-Procurement Co's Mayouche Premium Cold-Pressed Camellia Oil, which was found to have a benzopyrene level above the legal limit.

The Taipei Department of Health conducted a random inspection and discovered that Uni-Procurement Co had sold 201 bottles of the tainted oil in Taipei. The company has been ordered to temporarily suspend camellia oil production and sales.

Wei Jen-ting, head of the FDA's southern center, said the agency will send specialists and local health departments to visit the companies next month to help them improve manufacturing procedures and labeling.
