An oil tanker has been severely damaged in an explosion near the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns over security in one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints.

The incident occurred on July 26, 2026, according to reports from Iran's Tasnim News Agency. The tanker allegedly strayed from a designated navigation route announced by Tehran and struck a naval mine as a result.
