Tanker Hit by Projectile off Saudi Arabia's Yanbu Port

A tanker was struck by an unknown projectile off the coast of Saudi Arabia's Yanbu port on August 23, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations agency.

The incident occurred about 63 nautical miles west of the port and caused a fire on the main deck, but no casualties were reported. The crew is safe, with no environmental impact recorded.

This attack comes amid a widening campaign against Saudi-linked shipping in the Red Sea, where Yemen's Houthi group has declared a maritime blockade of Saudi Arabia since July 20.

The Houthis have been pursuing tankers well north of the Bab el-Mandeb strait, which had previously been used to avoid their target zone. This latest incident adds strain to US efforts to control the Hormuz situation, as both oil chokepoints in the region are effectively shut at once.
