Tanker Struck Near Hormuz Causes Blackout Amid Rising Tensions
A tanker carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar was struck near the Strait of Hormuz, causing a blackout on board but no injuries. The Gaslog Shanghai, managed by GasLog Ltd., loaded an LNG cargo in Qatar on July 27 and stopped transmitting its tracking signal on July 31.
The incident follows another attack involving a vessel managed by the same company, which occurred earlier this week when the Gaslog Salem LNG carrier was struck by a drone while docked at Egypt's northern port of Damietta. No group has claimed responsibility for that attack.
In related news, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi warned over the weekend that his country would retaliate decisively if the US follows through on President Donald Trump's threats of fresh attacks on Iranian targets.
