Tanzania's First Small-Scale LNG Facility Takes Shape
Tanzania's first small-scale LNG facility is one step closer to reality after TPDC, TAQA Arabia (through its subsidiary Rosetta Energy Solutions), and Africa50 signed a gas sales agreement. The signing ceremony was attended by Tanzanian President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, indicating the government's strong support for the project.
The East Africa LNG (EALNG) project will liquefy domestically produced natural gas and distribute it to industrial users, residential customers, and the transportation sector using specialized vehicles. This distribution model is central to the project's rationale, allowing gas to reach customers outside the existing pipeline network without building new fixed infrastructure.
Africa50's involvement adds another layer of logic, as its midstream gas platform aims to connect Africa's gas resources to communities and industries in need. Tanzania is the first project under this platform, with commercial operations targeted for 2027.
