Targa Builds Big in Permian Basin with Three New Gas Plants
Targa Resources is expanding its operations in the Permian Basin by building three new natural gas processing plants, which will add combined capacity of 825 million cubic feet per day. The Wrangler, Ranger, and Ranger II plants are expected to enter service in the first half of 2028.
The company also announced a new 70-mile pipeline as part of its Bull Run residue system, which will transport natural gas from the processing plants to the Waha hub. This pipeline is also set to begin operations in the first half of 2028.
Targa's expansion plans come as production rises in the Permian Basin, driven by strong oil and gas production, growing natgas demand for liquefied natural gas exports, and increasing power generation tied to AI operations, cryptocurrency mining, and data centers. The company has signed new 20-year agreements with ExxonMobil units for natural gas gathering, processing, and downstream services in the Permian Basin.
