Tech Stocks Rally on Wall Street as Oil Prices Hold Steady
Wall Street experienced a rebound on Wednesday as technology stocks rallied and oil prices held relatively steady. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.6%, driven by Nvidia's 3% gain, which lifted the index. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq composite also gained 0.5% each.
The rally was fueled by big technology companies, including Meta, Netflix, and Dell Technologies, which reported strong second-quarter profits amid accelerating demand for artificial intelligence computing. Chevron edged 0.3% higher after confirming it will expand operations in Venezuela.
However, anxiety over rising prices, government debt, and the impact of global conflicts on the US and the global economy continues to grip Wall Street. The rocky start to September follows a mostly positive August during which every major index notched a gain for the month.
