Teck's Copper Earnings Surge on Price and Volume Growth
The copper mining industry has experienced significant growth due to rising demand and increased production. Teck Resources, a major player in the sector, saw its earnings triple in the June quarter of 2026, driven by both high copper prices and higher output.
Copper prices surged 37.5% year-over-year, from approximately $4.24 per pound to $5.83 per pound, providing a substantial boost to Teck's revenue. However, this was not the only factor contributing to the company's success. Teck also increased its copper production by 32%, from 106,100 tonnes to 140,000 tonnes.
The combination of these two factors resulted in a dramatic increase in earnings for Teck. The company's adjusted EBITDA grew by more than 200% compared to the same period in 2025, reaching C$2.2 billion. This growth was primarily driven by the copper segment, which saw its gross profit expand from approximately C$343 million to C$1.4 billion.
The key driver behind Teck's success is its flagship operation, Quebrada Blanca Phase 2 (QB2), located in Chile's Atacama region. This project has been ramping up towards its design throughput capacity and has positioned Teck as a low-cost producer in the global copper market.
