Temporary LNG Arrives in Whittier Amid Pipeline Repair Outage
A temporary solution to Whittier's natural gas shortage has been brought in from Canada.
An ISO container carrying liquefied natural gas and a vaporizer trailer arrived at Enstar Natural Gas' Anchorage yard on August 21, bound for Whittier.
The utility shut off supplies to the city of about 250 people after a pipeline serving them deteriorated and began leaking. ENSTAR had initially warned residents to expect the outage until September 5 or until repairs were completed.
ENSTAR announced that the system serving Whittier needs to be reenergized before gas meters can be turned back on, and technicians will contact residents as they become available to turn meters on and relight appliances.
