Tensions Fuel High Gas Prices Despite Lower Oil Costs

Escalating tensions between the US and Iran have pushed Brent futures to multi-week highs, reaching nearly $98 per barrel. Despite this, motorists in Asia and other major markets are still being charged high prices at the pump for gasoline and diesel.

Crude oil had previously eased from its wartime highs in mid-May but gasoline and diesel costs continued to remain elevated.

This means that despite lower oil prices, consumers are not seeing cheaper gasoline. The disconnect between crude oil prices and gas prices is attributed to various factors including refining capacity, transportation costs, and market manipulation.
