Tensions in Strait of Hormuz Send Oil Prices Soaring Again
Global oil prices have risen for the second time this week amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical energy shipping route. According to Reuters, Brent crude prices increased by 0.54 percent on Monday morning (September 7) to reach $96.80 per barrel.
The rise follows recent attacks by Tehran against U.S.-linked vessels and unauthorized oil tankers in the region. Iranian authorities claim this was a retaliatory measure in response to U.S. strikes that destroyed three Iranian crude oil tankers earlier this year.
The ongoing conflict has seen Brent crude prices surge by more than 30 percent since February 28, when tensions began between the United States, Israel, and Iran. Market analysts warn that continued instability could deliver another major blow to the global economy.
