Tether Gold Sees Safe-Haven Demand Surge Amid Gold Price Correction

Despite gold prices plummeting by 14.1% in Q2 to $4,008 per ounce, investor demand for Tether Gold (XAUT) actually increased. This trend suggests that many investors viewed the correction as an opportunity to accumulate more physical gold rather than reduce their risk exposure.

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino noted that holders of XAUT are not only buying when the price of gold is rising, but also using periods of market weakness to increase their ownership of physical gold. Customer holdings rose 9.5% during Q2, adding more than 53,000 XAUT, which represents an additional 1.66 tonnes of physical gold.

XAUT's growth signifies a greater emphasis on tokenizing real-world assets and using cryptocurrencies to represent tangible assets. Unlike traditional bullion, tokenized gold combines physical ownership with continuous blockchain settlement, making it easier to trade, transfer, and integrate into decentralized finance.
