Texas Gas Prices Hold Steady Amid Rising National Averages
Texas gas prices have held steady this week despite rising national averages, according to AAA Texas. The statewide average for regular unleaded is $3.63 per gallon, unchanged from a week ago but up 85 cents from this time last year.
The most expensive metro area in the state remains El Paso, with prices averaging $3.94 per gallon. On the other hand, Tyler offers the lowest prices at $3.49 per gallon.
Crude oil is a major factor contributing to high gas prices, AAA Texas notes. West Texas Intermediate was trading in the low-$80-per-barrel range on Thursday due to uncertainty around the Strait of Hormuz. As demand begins to soften with the end of the summer travel season, higher crude oil prices are limiting the typical seasonal drop in August.
