Thiel Backs Vista Energy with $76 Million Stake
Peter Thiel's hedge fund, Thiel Macro LLC, has acquired a $76 million stake in Vista Energy, one of Argentina's largest oil producers.
The purchase involves approximately 1.2 million American depositary shares, accounting for about 1 percent of the company's outstanding stock.
Vista Energy has invested over $6.5 billion in Argentina and produces around 160,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day from the Vaca Muerta shale formation in Patagonia.
The acquisition comes after Thiel met with Argentine President Javier Milei in Buenos Aires last year, discussing economic policy and their shared opposition to wealth taxes.
