Thursday's Commodity Prices See Wild Swings
Closing markets on Thursday, August 6 saw significant changes in commodity prices. On the Chicago Board of Trade, corn futures for September rose by 2 cents to $4.38 per bushel, while December's contract increased by 1 cent to $4.61. Soybean futures also climbed, with September up by 2 cents at $11.59 and November rising by a similar amount to $11.77.
However, wheat futures took a hit, with September down 11 cents at $6.30 per bushel and December's contract following suit, dropping by the same amount to $6.49. Live cattle futures saw a decline as well, with October's contract decreasing by 427 points to $225.20 and December's falling by 407 points to $224.60.
Feeder cattle futures also dropped, with September down by 662 points at $341.75 and October's contract decreasing by 747 points to $331.95. On the crop front, 2026 crop corn rose by 2 cents to $6.02 per bushel from Wanstead Farmers Co-operative, while 2027 crop corn increased by 1 cent to $6.10.
The co-operative's 2026 crop soybeans jumped up by 3 cents to $15.58 per bushel, but the 2027 crop saw a decline of 1 cent to $14.99. The Ontario Pork Reports noted that the U-S CME price for live cattle had risen by 21 cents to $98.87 per hundredweight, dressed weight.
The 100% formula price also increased, rising by $1.25 to $246.05 per hundred kilograms, dressed weight.
