Tilbury LNG Expansion Draws Over 690 Concerned Comments

The Tilbury LNG expansion has come under intense scrutiny from concerned citizens and environmental groups. Over 690 people have submitted comments to the BC EAO during the public comment period, which ended on July 27, 2026.

The concerns raised by the community include air pollution in Metro Vancouver's already stressed airshed, the risk of accidents, inadequate protections for wildlife, and the cumulative impacts the connected project poses to the critical Salish Sea.

Stand.earth Oceans Campaigner Anna Barford stated that 'the local community has been clear that LNG is not welcome in MetroVancouver.' She emphasized that FortisBC's expansion ambitions include tankers on the Fraser, a toxic industrial flare, and making ratepayers cover at least $1 billion of the costs directly from their gas bills.

The Tilbury LNG gas terminal already poses a massive risk to one of Canada's most productive salmon habitats. The Fraser River's estuary is the largest in B.C., feeding and sheltering over 1.7 million migratory birds annually.
