Tinubu Demands End to Gas Flaring in Nigeria

Nigeria's President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) to prioritize domestic utilisation of the country's gas resources. Speaking at a meeting with NLNG's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Adeleye Falade, on August 26, Tinubu expressed concern over the amount of gas being flared in the country.

'My major concern is the domestic utilisation,' Tinubu said. 'You must be able to take out the flaring and convert potential environmental liability to what could be strategically and economically beneficial to the consumers in the country.'

NLNG has generated over $150 billion since its inception, with its shareholders receiving about $47 billion in dividends. The company currently accounts for about five per cent of the global LNG market.
