Tinubu Tasks NLNG on Domestic Energy Utilization Over Gas Flaring
Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) to prioritize domestic energy utilization over gas flaring.
Tinubu made this call at a meeting with NLNG's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Adeleye Falade, where he expressed concern about the country not deriving maximum benefits from its gas reserves.
The President emphasized the importance of utilizing domestic energy to boost the economy and benefit ordinary Nigerians. He praised NLNG for maximizing revenue and increasing the organization's capacity but urged them to focus on reducing flaring and promoting domestic utilization.
Falade informed Tinubu that NLNG has generated over $150 billion since inception, with Nigeria receiving about $47 billion in dividends as a 49% shareholder. He also mentioned that the company is working towards inaugurating Train Seven, which will boost its capacity by 35%, and increasing its current capacity.
Tinubu assured the NLNG team of his support to incentivize them to maximize their potential for Nigerians' benefit and urged them to think about people's needs for domestication of energy requirements and pricing mechanisms.
