TMF Advises Caution on Chasing Precious Metal Gains
Tata Mutual Fund (TMF) is advising investors to be cautious when chasing short-term moves in precious metals, particularly gold and silver. Despite a recent correction, TMF's August 2026 house view remains bullish on gold in the long term, with a preference for staggered investment rather than lump-sum buying.
According to TMF's analysis, gold has held up better than silver in July 2026, with international gold gaining 0.95% and domestic gold declining 0.72%. In contrast, international silver fell 1.71%, while domestic silver declined 4.34% during the month.
TMF attributes domestic gold's outperformance to rupee depreciation and higher import duties, which have benefited gold prices. On the other hand, silver underperformed gold due to its industrial-demand exposure, making it more vulnerable to war-driven cost pressure and rate-hike risk.
TMF remains positive on gold due to structural factors such as central-bank purchases, investment demand, and portfolio diversification. The fund house also notes that gold acts as a hedge against macroeconomic uncertainty and currency debasement risks, making it an attractive long-term investment option.
