TN PDS Shops to Supply Packaged Wheat Flour on Pilot Basis Starting August
The state government of Tamil Nadu has introduced a new initiative in its budget for 2026. The Public Distribution System (PDS) will now supply packaged wheat flour on a pilot basis, marking an expansion of essential commodities distributed through fair price shops.
According to Finance Minister N Marie Wilson, the pilot project is estimated to cost Rs 18 crore and aims to assess consumer demand and streamline distribution before any wider rollout. This new initiative is in addition to another welfare measure announced under the Food and Consumer Protection Department, which will deliver essential commodities at the doorsteps of senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable sections for a total of Rs 7.18 crore.
