Tokyo Stocks See Mixed Results as Rate Hikes and Oil Prices Weigh
The Tokyo stock market experienced mixed results on September 1, with the Nikkei Stock Average falling for a second consecutive day and the TOPIX index continuing to rise.
The Nikkei dropped 261.60 yen (0.39%) from its previous close to 66,050.33, weighed down by rising long-term interest rates and higher crude oil prices amid Middle East tensions.
However, the TOPIX index rose 21.56 points (0.52%) to 4,177.85, driven by value-stock buying likely tied to month-start portfolio rebalancing.
