TotalEnergies Leads Low-Carbon LNG Plant Project in Papua New Guinea
A low-carbon liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant project is underway in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (PNG). The project, led by TotalEnergies with partners ExxonMobil, Santos, and ENEOS Xplora Inc, aims to reduce carbon emissions through the use of 'E Drive' technology. This innovative approach replaces conventional gas turbines with electric motors to drive refrigerant compressors.
The plant will have a capacity of four million tonnes per year, consisting of three trains each producing 1.33 million tonnes annually. The project will utilize natural gas from the Elk-Antelope fields in PNG. Although specific job creation numbers and capital expenditure figures are not disclosed, the project's final investment decision is scheduled for 2026.
JGC and Hyundai E&C have been awarded an engineering, procurement, and construction contract for the project. Interested parties can contact Papua LNG Venture at for more information.
