Trans Mountain Pipeline Runs Almost Full Amid Increased Oil Demand
Trans Mountain Corp. has reported that its pipeline from Alberta to Vancouver ran at nearly full capacity in the second quarter of this year, according to a statement made on August 28, 2026.
The Trans Mountain pipeline, which has been operating since the 1950s and was expanded in 2024 to triple its capacity to 890,000 barrels per day, carried an average of 840,000 barrels of oil per day during the three months ended June 30. This represents a significant increase from the same period last year, when it averaged 703,000 barrels per day.
The pipeline's net income for the quarter was $138 million, down from $150 million in the previous year, while its revenues rose to $808 million from $719 million. The company also paid $450 million to the federal government during the second quarter in the form of interest and dividends.
