Transgaz Eyes Strategic Stake in US-Based LNG Export Terminal
Romania's Transgaz has signed a memorandum of understanding with Argent LNG to explore a potential strategic equity stake in the US-based liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal. The pact, signed in Bucharest, aims to create a link between US Gulf Coast LNG and European markets.
The agreement sets up a structure for examining the possibility of Transgaz investing in Argent LNG, which is developing an LNG export terminal at Port Fourchon, Louisiana, with an intended output of 25 million metric tons per year. The deal also includes a non-disclosure agreement tied to their talks.
Transgaz, the fourth-largest gas transmission system operator in the European Union, highlights that Romania's upgraded gas infrastructure and the Vertical Corridor aid in diversifying supply sources and pathways, cutting reliance on Russian gas, and bolstering energy security for Romania, Moldova, Ukraine, and the wider Central, Eastern, and Southeastern European and Balkan region.
