Transgaz Seeks US LNG Access Through Strategic Equity Investment
Transgaz, Romania's largest natural gas transmission system operator, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Argent LNG to explore a strategic equity investment. The deal was sealed by Ion Sterian, CEO of Transgaz, and Jonathan Bass, Chairman and CEO of Argent LNG.
The MoU establishes a non-binding framework for the parties to discuss and negotiate the terms of the equity investment. This move reflects Transgaz's interest in securing long-term access to US LNG supply and its desire to hold a direct stake in the company overseeing the broader Argent LNG development platform.
As a major player in Europe's gas infrastructure, Transgaz operates national transmission systems in both an EU member state (Romania) and an accession candidate. The company has been invited by Argent LNG to become a shareholder due to its strategic position in the region.
