Transgaz Seeks US LNG Access Through Strategic Equity Investment in Argent LNG
Transgaz, Romania's fourth-largest natural gas transmission system operator, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Argent LNG to explore a strategic equity investment. The MoU was signed at Transgaz's headquarters in Bucharest and establishes a framework for the companies to discuss the terms of the investment.
The primary objectives of the proposed partnership are to enable the transit of US liquefied natural gas (LNG) through Romania to neighboring countries, including Ukraine, Hungary, Austria, Slovakia, and Germany. This would diversify Romania's natural gas supply sources and secure long-term access to US LNG supply for Transgaz.
Transgaz is the only transmission system operator that operates national systems in two countries: an EU member state (Romania) and an accession candidate country (Moldova). The company has been invited by Argent LNG to become a shareholder due to its strategic position in the region. The non-disclosure agreement signed alongside the MoU will allow the parties to discuss the equity investment without revealing sensitive information.
