Transgaz and Argent LNG have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore a strategic equity investment in the U.S.-based LNG export developer. The agreement was made in Bucharest, with Transgaz CEO Ion Sterian and Argent LNG Chairman and CEO Jonathan Bass signing the MOU.

The two companies aim to enable the transit of US LNG through Romania to countries such as Moldova, Ukraine, Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Germany. This move is part of a broader effort to diversify regional energy supply and reduce dependence on Russian gas.

Argent LNG is developing an LNG export terminal in Port Fourchon, Louisiana, with a planned capacity of 25 million metric tons per year (mtpa). Transgaz is the fourth-largest natural gas transmission system operator in the European Union and operates national gas transmission systems in two countries.
