Trump Abandons Strike Plans, Oil Prices Plummet Amid Middle East Hopes
Oil prices are plummeting on global markets amid hopes for a resolution to the Middle East conflict. U.S. President Donald Trump announced he has decided not to launch massive strikes against Iran, instead opting for peaceful means to achieve his goals.
According to Trump, Tehran itself and other Middle Eastern countries asked him to hold off on strikes against Iran. He confirmed receiving assurances from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE regarding mutual understanding with Iran on the issue of the Strait of Hormuz.
The price of October Brent crude oil futures settled at $83.22 per barrel, down $4.71 (5.36%) from the previous session's close. September WTI crude oil futures fell by $5.2 (6.14%) to $79.47 per barrel.
Analyst Tony Sycamore warns that this scenario may repeat itself, with Iran taking a hard line and using its control over the Strait of Hormuz to its advantage.
