Trump Admin's Oil Export Claims Disputed by Analysts
U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright sparked controversy in energy markets when he stated that more oil exports left the Middle East on Monday, between the Strait of Hormuz and alternative routes, than before the Iran war.
Analysts at TankerTrackers.com disputed this claim, pointing out that Wright's numbers were based on ship-to-ship transfers over multiple days. This process can be time-consuming, taking up to several days, and appears to be counting volumes transferred across different days as a single day's total.
According to data from TankerTrackers.com, an estimated 9.14 million barrels of oil exited the Arabian Sea on Monday, which is one of the highest days of traffic in recent weeks but still well below pre-war levels.
The controversy surrounding Wright's statement raises questions about the accuracy of the data being used to inform policy decisions.
